Day two of the Costa FLW Series presented by Power-Pole has been lights out at Okeechobee – not exactly the kind of “lights out” where it’s “game over, lights out,” but rather lights out in that it’s been dark and gloomy most of the day. The morning started with a thick fog over much of the lake. Then came a few wispy showers, followed by a crack of sunshine and then dark, low clouds.
Those who fish Okeechobee know that warm, bright sunshine is what helps encourage the spawning process. Sun-baked flats are like a magnet pulling bass in. But when the skies go gray and dark, it tends to dissuade the process. On the water reporters didn’t see much in the form of big fish today. Taylor Ashley (6th) started his day with a nice 5-pounder and added some other solid keepers as well. At about 10 o’clock, Robert Beatty (2nd) was working on finishing a limit but no big ones yet. Other reports include limits for Tim Fox, Kyle Monti, Randy Haynes, Tim Wilson and four little ones for Derek Remitz.
The field cuts from 250 to 10 at weigh-in today and the sun seems to be breaking out. The afternoon bite is likely to decide who’s fishing on Saturday and who’s left out. Weigh-in starts at 3 p.m. ET in-person at Roland & Mary Ann Martin’s Marina & Resort or live online at flwfishing.com.
Format: All 250 boaters and co-anglers will compete for two days. The top 10 boaters and co-anglers based on cumulative weight after two days of competition will advance to the third and final round, with the winner determined by the heaviest cumulative three-day weight.
