Mechanical issues with one of our camera boats limited our time on the water this morning, but the early goings revealed much about day two of the Costa FLW Series presented by Frabill on Lake Texoma. The story for today will be changing weather.
A clear morning took an abrupt change shortly after take off when the western sky darkened with an approaching front. The sun had barely breached the treetops when grey clouds blanketed the lake. Occasional patches of sunshine kept the morning warm, but air temperatures are noticeably cooler. Daytime highs are forecast to reach 89 degrees, as opposed to the mid-90’s yesterday.
Also different today – less wind. Today will see south-southeast winds of about 10 mph, which is a significant drop from the blow of 15-20 mph on day one.
So, what does this all mean? Here’s our analysis:
We followed day-one leader Billy Cline at takeoff and saw him struggle with uncooperative fish for about an hour. He threw topwaters and crankbaits at clay banks with scattered wood, rock, rip rap and points.
Weigh-in starts at 3 p.m. CT, and only the top 10 fish on the final day. With weights as close as they are, we expect a lot of shuffling come weigh-in time.
