MOUNT IDA, Ark. – National Guard FLW College Fishing is headed to Lake Ouachita April 17 for the third of four stops in the Central Division. Forty collegiate teams will compete for a top award of $10,000 to be split evenly between the school and bass fishing club.

“Those kids are going to wale on `em next week,” said Folgers pro Scott Suggs of Bryant, Ark., who won the Forrest Wood Cup on Lake Ouachita in 2007. “The fish will be in full spawn and munching like it’s Donkey Kong. It’s going to take about 20 pounds to win this tournament.

“They’ll want to go out and buy a Carolina rig and use lizards in pea gravel and chunk-rock mix in no more than 5 feet of water. They should be throwing long casts and dragging it back with a slow retrieve; it’s going to be blind-fishing.”

Water temperatures should be in the 60s with air temps expected to be in the low to mid-70s.

Anglers will take off from Mountain Harbor Resort and Spa located at 994 Mountain Harbor Road in Mount Ida, Ark., at 6:30 a.m. Weigh-in will be held at Mountain Harbor Resort and Spa beginning at 1 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

A complete list of registered College Fishing teams competing in the tournament is available online.

The top five teams from each tournament will qualify for the regional championship where the first-place team wins $25,000 cash for their school and a Ranger 177TR bass boat for their fishing club. The top five teams from each regional advance to the national championship where the first-place team wins $50,000 for their school and $25,000 cash and a Ranger 177TR bass boat for their fishing club.

FLW Outdoors provides boats and drivers for each competing team along with travel allowances. All participants must be registered, full-time undergraduate students at a four-year college or university and members of a fishing club recognized by their college or university.
