One of the best pieces of fishing equipment a bass fisherman can have is an airbrush to paint lures with. I paint my lures to match the water and baitfish conditions that I find when I fish tournaments on different lakes.
I’m confident that it’s made a big difference in my catch rate. For instance, I might change the light-blue back on a crankbait to a darker blue to make it stand out more or airbrush a color completely out and add a local favorite.
Give it a try. Airbrush setups are inexpensive and can be purchased at hobby stores. I clear-coat the paint job with a two-part rod epoxy. When I dry it, I mount it on a small electric turning wheel I rigged up so that the coating is spread evenly as it turns and there’s no buildup or air bubbles.
