Boater Jeff Benson of Holmen, Wis., caught 10-bass weighing 32 pounds, 6 ounces Aug. 28-29 to win $5,817 in the BFL Great Lakes Division tournament on the Mississippi River. On a hot weekend Benson won the Boater division while his father Charlie took home the non-boater title. After they both finished in seventh place on day one the father son team fished together on Sunday; they were in Pool 8 using a chartreuse swimming jig with a white trailer in 7 feet of water to earn their victories.

9th: Dan Ehmen, Rockford, Ill., 10 bass, 28-1, $776

Benson snares non-boater title

Charlie Benson of Holmen, Wisc., won the BFL Super Tournament Great Lakes Division event on the Mississippi River as a non-boater. For his efforts, Benson took home more than $2,900.Charlie Benson of Holmen, Wis., caught 10 bass weighing 27 pounds, 6 ounces Aug. 28-29 to win $2,909 in the Co-angler Division.

10th: Kenny Bowen, Red Wing, Minn., eight bass, 22-6, $339

The top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings have now qualified for the Oct. 21-23 Regional Championship on Kentucky Lake in Gilbertsville, Ky. Boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger 198VX with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Yamaha outboard and a Chevy pick-up, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger 198VX.
