MINNEAPOLIS – Gary McGlohorn of Batesburg, South Carolina, accumulated the most points of any Fishing League Worldwide (FLW) Fantasy Fishing player worldwide to win $5,000 after last week’s FLW Tour event at Mississippi River presented by Evinrude in La Crosse, Wisconsin. McGlohorn won by assembling a team of anglers and earning points based on their performance in the FLW Tour fishing tournament.

“I started playing FLW Fantasy Fishing about six years ago, and the most I’ve ever won was a hat and bait,” said McGlohorn. “Now, I’m ranked fifth overall in the world and have a shot at winning the big prize of $10,000.”

McGlohorn said he utilized the Member’s Advantage tools available to all FLW members on the FLW website to help him make his picks.

“I figured out who lived close to the Mississippi River and looked at Pundit Picks to get started,” said McGlohorn. “I also chose a few consistent anglers that catch them everywhere they go. I liked Scott Martin, and I had to pick the G.O.A.T (Greatest of All Time) Andy Morgan.

“I held off on Bryan Thrift because he usually flips docks if the tournament gets tough, but I didn’t think that would come into play in this event,” McGlohorn continued. “I also had a hunch he was due for a slip up, especially with how good he’s been – it was the first time I haven’t picked him all year.”

McGlohorn said he hopes he can carry his momentum into the final regular-season event of the year – the FLW Tour at the Potomac River, scheduled for June 15-18 in Marbury, Maryland.

“You have to follow your instincts,” said McGlohorn. “Whomever I have a good feeling about, I’ll go with them.”

Finishing in second place was Brad Christy of Jefferson City, Missouri, who took home $1,000, and in third place was David Waltman of Los Banos, California, who won $500.

Other winners from across the globe were awarded prizes including cash, ShopFLW gift cards, hats and baits.

The 2017 Fantasy Fishing season consists of eight tournaments surrounding the FLW Tour regular season including the season-ending Forrest Wood Cup, the world championship of bass fishing. Fans compete for more than $7,000 in cash and prizes from each of the seven tournaments, including a top prize of $5,000.
