Thanks to Mother Nature, stop No. 1 on the 2010 FLW Tour was canceled. And along with it, so was the first FLW Fantasy Fishing event. As most already know, the Red River was flooded and water temperatures were in the frigid 40s. With the current ripping at approximately 12 mph, concerns grew about what would happen if engine failure occurred. Pros also began noticing objects such as wing dams and buoy markers were slowly disappearing from view, hiding dangerously under the water’s surface. In the end, it was a recipe for disaster. Even though it wasn’t easy, the right decision was made.
Now the 2010 season consists of five regular-season tournaments. For all practical purposes, the opener is Table Rock – scheduled for March 3-6 in Branson, Mo. Fishing fans will probably remember the FLW Tour visited Table Rock last year in early March. That means this upcoming event should be nearly a carbon copy of last year. The vast majority of the bass will be in the early prespawn stage – suspending on points and swings. One of the cool things about Table Rock, and most Ozark lakes for that matter, is that the cold weather actually makes the fish bite better – largemouths in particular.
Took a look at the 2009 results page and pick wisely. Because despite the Red River cancellation, the cumulative prizes haven’t been reduced. But with only five events instead of six, each now carries more weight. So get to work; Branson will be here before we know it.
