BENTON, KY. (June 19, 2006) – FLW Outdoors and Gain announced Thursday the creation of a new award available on the Wal-Mart FLW Tour – the “Gain Rookie of the Year” award.

Pro anglers who have not fished more than one FLW Tour event as a professional in their lifetime prior to their first full season on tour are eligible for the award, which includes $1,000 cash, a year’s supply of Gain detergent and a year’s supply of Gain Fabric Enhancer.

The angler who is crowned “Gain Rookie of the Year” will also be featured on “FLW Outdoors” television and in FLW Outdoors Magazine as well as being a featured guest on “FLW Live Reel Chat” on FLWOutdoors.com.

An awards presentation will be held during the greatest fishing show on earth, the $1.5 million FLW Tour Championship presented by Castrol on Logan Martin Lake in Birmingham, Ala., Aug. 2-5.

Gabe Bolivar tied Ramie Colson Jr. for third place on day one with a limit weighing 14 pounds, 4 ounces.

Anglers in contention are based on the highest points total acquired during their first year of professional competition on the FLW Tour. The higher an angler places the more points they receive.

The top five anglers going into the last qualifying tournament of the season, which will be held on Lake Champlain in Plattsburgh, N.Y., June 21-24 are Gabe Bolivar of Romona, Calif., with 828 points; Jason Knapp of Uniontown, Pa., with 715 points; Kevin Lasyone of Dry Prong, La., with 682 points; Thanh Le of Davie, Fla., with 681 points; and Charles Cummings of Leeds, Ala., with 648 points.

Bolivar is also in the running for the coveted Land O’Lakes Angler of the Year title.

Named after the legendary founder of Ranger Boats, Forrest L. Wood, FLW Outdoors administers 12 fishing circuits offer combined purses exceeding $37.9 million through 249 events in 2006.
