SHASTA LAKE, Calif. – The FLW Series will visit Lake Shasta in Shasta Lake, Calif., Jan. 13-16 for the first stop of the National Guard Western Division in 2010. Hosted by the Shasta Lake Chamber of Commerce, the tournament will feature as many as 300 top bass anglers, casting for top awards of up to $50,000 in the Pro Division and a Ranger 177 TR with a 90-horsepower engine in the Co-angler Division.

“I am anxious to get back out there and go fishing,” said Team National Guard pro Brent Ehrler of Redlands, Calif., who finished second in the 2009 Western Division Angler of the Year race. “This is only the second time I have fished on Lake Shasta, so it is a new lake for me. I am always excited about something new, and it should be a great challenge for me.

“The lake is predominantly full of spotted bass, not largemouths, so the average size is going to be smaller, 1 to 2 pounds; one big fish could win the tournament. There are going to be a lot of fish caught, but I think the key is going to be finding that one or two quality fish each day,” he added.

Anglers will take off from Bridge Bay Resort located at 10300 Bridge Bay Road in Redding, Calif., at 7:30 each morning. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday’s weigh-ins will also be held at the marina beginning at 2:30 p.m. Saturday’s final weigh-in will be held at the Mt. Shasta Mall located at 900 Dana Drive in Redding beginning at 3 p.m.

Fans will be treated to a Family Fun Zone at the mall prior to Saturday’s weigh-in from noon to 4 p.m. There will be a drawing for a $500 mall gift card, and drawings for rod and reel combos will be held every 30 minutes during the event. Activities in the Family Fun Zone include a trout pond, a Ranger boat simulator and assorted fishing-themed games. All activities are free and open to the public.

In FLW Series competition, anglers are also vying for valuable points to qualify for the 2011 Forrest Wood Cup, the world championship of bass fishing.

Coverage of the Lake Shasta tournament will be broadcast in high-definition (HD) on VERSUS through the “FLW Outdoors” program, which will air April 11 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. ET. “FLW Outdoors,” hosted by Jason Harper, is broadcast to approximately 500 million households worldwide.
