SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – The Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Guntersville Feb. 6 for the first of five stops in the Choo Choo Division. As many as 400 pros and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“Lake Guntersville is a great lake to fish for any angler,” said FLW Tour pro Greg Pugh of Cullman, Ala., who likes to fish in shallow, grassy waters. “I think Guntersville is the best lake in the country; there are plenty of fish to catch no matter what time of year it is.

“The water temperature is about 42 to 44 degrees right now, and the fish are starting to move up to start their feeding frenzy. Anglers will want to stay fairly shallow, about 2 to 5 feet deep. Jerkbaits and rattle baits will be their best choice.

“One of the reasons I have done so well on Guntersville is that I fish for seven bites per day. I like to go for the big bite,” Pugh continued. “It’s easy to get 25 to 30 bites, but they’re probably not going to win the tournament for you. If the weather is good, no wind, it will probably take 25 pounds to win this tournament.”

Anglers will take off from Waterfront Tackle & Grill at Goose Pond located at 417 Ed Hembree Drive in Scottsboro, Ala., at 6:30 a.m. Weigh-in will be held at Waterfront Tackle & Grill beginning at 2:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Lake Guntersville Bass Fishing League tournament is being hosted by the Greater Jackson Chamber of Commerce.

Bass Fishing League competition is a 24-division league circuit devoted to weekend anglers, that offers even bigger prizes to Regional Championship qualifiers and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
