LAKEVIEW, Ohio – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Indian Lake June 12 for the second of five stops in the Buckeye Division series. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“This tournament will hit the lake at the right time of year for anglers to catch a lot of fish,” said FLW Tour pro Dick Shaffer of Rockford, Ohio, who had a top-10 finish on Indian Lake last year. “Anglers will be catching 1- to 1 1/2-pounders all day long; it’s going to be the 2-plus-pounder that is going to be the problem, and the guy that can figure that out will have a good chance to win this tournament.

“Generally the bigger fish come out of the patch, and the cover is so thick you can’t get to them. The lake is as clear as it has been in a long time, and the fish spook pretty easily. But there is something for everyone. The lake is shallow, and 90 percent of the fish are caught in 3 feet or less of water. There are also a lot of rock beds to crank if you like crankin’. Flipping a jig, plastics, frogs and topwater baits will all work too. It’s just a fun lake to try whatever you like, and chances are you will be successful.”

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Indian Lake State Park-Moundwood Boat Ramp located at 12774 State Route 235 North in Lakeview, Ohio. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Indian Lake BFL tournament is being hosted by the Logan County Chamber of Commerce.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
