GADSDEN, Ala. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Neely Henry July 17 for the fourth of five stops in the Bama Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“Water temperatures are in the mid- to upper 80s, so the morning bite is going to play a big role in this tournament,” said FLW Tour pro Greg Pugh of Cullman, Ala., who has 28 top-10 finishes in his nine-year career. “Topwater baits such as the frog, buzzbait or Pop R spooks will work really well.

Pugh added that if water is being pulled, spotted bass will be a big factor; the spots like to feed and will start to congregate in areas down the lake where the water is moving. He believes it will take 17 to 18 pounds to win this tournament.

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Coosa Landing located at 200 Lake St. in Gadsden, Ala. Takeoff is scheduled for 5:30 a.m., while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Lake Neely Henry BFL tournament is being hosted by the Gadsden Parks and Recreation.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
