HARDIN, Ky. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Kentucky-Barkley lakes March 5 for the first of five stops in the LBL Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.

“It’s just a great time of year to fish Kentucky-Barkley lakes,” said Walmart FLW Tour pro Keith Monson of Burgin, Ky. “The fish are fairly simple to catch once you figure it out. We have had a colder-than-normal winter, so water temperatures are a little cooler than what you might otherwise be used to, but the fish are getting ready to move up and spawn.

“Shallow-running crankbaits and Rat-L-Traps around points and secondary points leading into the bays are going to be key. Jerkbaits will be outstanding. I am partial to jigs myself. Anglers should be catching about 50 to 60 fish in a day. I think it is going to take over 20 pounds to win this thing.”

Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Kenlake Marina located at 888 Kenlake Marina Lane in Hardin, Ky. Takeoff is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Kentucky-Barkley lakes BFL tournament is being hosted by Marshall County Tourist Commission.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the FLW Tour.
