LAKE WYLIE, S.C. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Wylie March 19 for the second of five stops in the South Carolina Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“This tournament will probably be won on a jig and a Rat-L-Trap or a big 1-ounce (lipless crankbait) that they like to use there,” said Chevy pro and reigning Walmart FLW Tour Angler of the Year Bryan Thrift of Shelby, N.C. “But it could be won on a crankbait or a spinnerbait because we’re getting a lot of rain right now and you can catch them up shallow on rocks. The rocks are what they pull up on first when the water’s as stained as it is.”

Thrift said he expects weights to be “very good” for the tournament and projects it will take more than 28 pounds to win the event.

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Buster Boyds Landing located at 3990 Old Charlotte Highway in Lake Wylie, S.C. Takeoff is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 3:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

Bass Fishing League competition is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for the regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.

The Lake Wylie BFL tournament is being hosted by the Rock Hill/York County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
