Friday at EverStart Kentucky Lake begins with light skies, heavy competition
GILBERTSVILLE, Ky. – Cool, clear weather greeted the start of Friday’s semifinal-round action at the EverStart Series Central Division at Kentucky and Barkley lakes, which is a change from the windy, wet weather seen here during the first two days of competition. The changing conditions will force anglers to adapt their strategies somewhat for today’s one-day fishing shootout to see who qualifies for Saturday’s final round. But if any semifinal-round field is equipped to handle the task, these veterans are.
Ray Scheide of Cookson, Okla., led the charge in the Pro Division in the opening round with a two-day combined weight of 30 pounds, 11 ounces. He is facing off today against a field of 19 other pros that includes six past champions of EverStart and FLW Tour events.
The weather forecast is calling for a return to cloudy conditions as the day wears on. But if the sun can manage to stay out and the wind remains calm, look for many anglers to focus their energies on fishing very shallow where they can finally see the bass. Light plastic worms and spinner baits could turn out to be the baits of choice Friday.
Day-three weigh-in begins at 4 p.m. at the Wal-Mart Supercenter located at 310 West Fifth Street in Benton, Ky. Following today’s competition both the pro and co-angler fields will be cut to the top 10 anglers apiece for the final round. The four-day $210,000 tournament ends Saturday, when the pro winner will receive $15,000 and a Ranger boat and the co-angler winner will receive $6,000.
