EverStart Series Western Division, May 4-7

The EverStart Series Western Division field can expect to find plenty of fish hanging around spawning beds when it converges at the California Delta May 4-7.

But according to FLW Tour pro Brent Ehrler of Redlands, Calif., the outcome of the tournament probably won’t be decided by sight-fishing alone. Ehrler said many of the Delta lunkers will have already dumped their eggs in the shallows and will likely be suspended in postspawn animation around grassy flats and bays that are void of a ripping current.

“The guy who wins it will be the one who mixes it up between flipping around tules and grass, and throwing reaction baits like a topwater,” Ehrler said. “It should be a great tournament with plenty of big limits caught.”

Ehrler’s call: 30 pounds to make the cut; 35 pounds to win.
